At Lynwood, our students are preparing for a future that will enable them to take charge of their lives by learning universal timeless principles. These principles include responsibility, planning ahead, respect for others, team work, and balance in their life.

Our students are learning basic leadership principles, skills for making good choices, and developing strong character that will prepare them to achieve, succeed, and contribute positively to society. Our teachings are based on the books, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey and The 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey.

Students are learning and applying the 7 habits everyday and in all settings: in the classroom, in the lunchroom, on the playground, ....

I hope you see a difference in your child and encourage them to practice the 7 habits at home as well.

What are the 7 habits?

1. Be proactive: Take the initiative and the responsibility to make things happen.

2. Begin with the end in mind: Start with a clear destination to understand where you are now, where you are going, and what you value most.

3. Put first things first: Manage yourself. Organize and execute around priorities.

4. Think win/win: See life as a cooperative, not a comprehensive arena, where success is not achieved at the expense or exclusion of others.

5. Seek first to understand: Seek to understand, then to be understood. This builds the skills of empathic listening that inspires openness and trust.

6. Synergize: Apply the principles of cooperative creativity and value differences.

7. “Sharpen the saw”: Preserve and enhance your greatest asset, YOURSELF, by renewing the physical, spiritual, mental and social/emotional dimensions of your nature.
